Precious
Packaging, 2021
Supervised by Mel Coombes
My precious items are two ornaments gifted to me as a child. They both display my birthday carved into the design. The package I created, allows them to hang amongst a dream-like scene that reminds me of my childhood and the precious items themselves. I constructed this using three panels of balsa wood stuck to a block of wood beneath.
I focused on the idea of the night sky with this prototype, as I was inspired by the sleeping bears, moon and star seen on the items, which also inspired the dream-like scene. The overall outer shape of a snow globe (which I owned many of through my childhood) is based on the idea of a dream or memory of my childhood being housed inside. With visible clouds in each layer, butterflies in the second layer and stars in the last layer, this symbolises the above aspects related to my childhood.
