Emotion -
Ultimate Decay
Packaging, 2021

My idea was to package sugar cubes to evoke the emotion of guilt. I wanted to play on the idea of dental health and how too much sugar is bad for your teeth. As consumers, we are aware that sugar is bad for our teeth, however, we don’t tend to think about the end result of how our teeth will be affected.
Through my package, I wanted to evoke a feeling of guilt by showing the discomfort and pain experienced with dental problems from eating sugar. By including the medical tweezers in the final prototype, this also gives the impression of having to extract teeth - represented by the sugar cubes - when teeth have decayed and someone is in discomfort/pain.
I was interested in exploring this side of sugar as sugar is usually branded as something light, delicate and pretty. My prototype is a good way to contrast this preconceived idea that we have of sugar and encourage people to think about the implications of consuming too much.
